HKIA Handles Record Number Of Annual Passengers

July 5, 2016

NewsStandOnline.Net (5-July-2016): Hong Kong International Airport in China handled a record 69.7 million passengers and 410,000 flight movements for the financial year ending March 31, 2016, representing a year-on-year increase of 7.8% and 3.6% respectively.

The increase in traffic has been partly attributed to the opening of the airport’s new Midfield Terminal at the end of 2015, which boosted the airport’s capacity by 10 million passengers annually.

Jack So Chak-kwong, chairman of the Airport Authority Hong Kong, said, “We are delighted that the airport had such a remarkable year.

“These results would not be possible without the collective effort and dedication of our 73,000 airport staff, who work closely together every day to make Hong Kong International the world’s leading airport.

“Hong Kong International had a great year in terms of airport development, but in order to meet long-term air traffic demand, we must expand into a three-runway system. We are grateful for the Executive Council’s approval and will start construction as soon as possible, striving to make sure that the project is completed on time and within budget.”
